How MASOrange improved mobile experience on the move, across 160,000 km of roads

MASOrange set out to improve mobile network performance across Spain’s national road network.

Their previous approach, based on limited, sporadic measurements, couldn’t keep up with customer expectations in high-mobility environments.

With Kenmei’s solution, MASOrange shifted to an automated, data-driven process that delivers continuous visibility and faster action.

The Challenge

Monitoring mobile performance along roads is complex.

MASOrange was facing recurring issues:

  • Incorrect parameter settings
  • Misconfigured adjacent cells, affecting service continuity
  • Installation errors
  • Overshooting coverage footprints
  • Traffic congestion and network access problems
  • Dropped or poor-quality calls

Before Kenmei, MASOrange monitored around 14,000 km of roads. At best, top city ring roads were measured four times a year, while most highways and national roads were only checked once or twice.

It offered no way to detect issues at scale, and no way to act in realtime.

MASOrange needed better visibility, more granularity, and a process that could keep up with the pace of the network.

The Solution

For MASOrange to make better use of their network data, we had to change how they accessed, understood, and acted on it.

We deployed a fully managed solution, designed specifically for the challenges of mobile performance across long, high-traffic road segments.

At the core: a custom-built Telco Fabric, powered by advanced geolocation algorithms and automated root cause diagnostics.

Here’s how it worked:

01

Smart correlation

PM counters, network parameters, traffic density, and crowdsource data were integrated to deliver a clear, contextual view of each road segment.

02

Geolocated insights

Our geolocation engine mapped network issues down to the kilometre, enabling targeted actions.

03

Actionable intelligence

The root cause engine automatically identified the origin of each anomaly, from handover misconfigurations to traffic congestion.

04

Surgical interventions

Where needed, selective drive tests were used to validate hypotheses, not to generate data manually.

Each week, MASOrange received high-priority recommendations in report format. Dashboards were used internally at Kenmei to track changes and validate impact over time.

The system brought together a diverse set of data sources:

  • PM counters
  • Network parameters
  • Crowdsource data
  • Open data (e.g., traffic density, terrain)
  • Call Traces (selectively used)
  • Drive Tests (only when needed)

We transformed raw data into clear, actionable decisions.

The Impact

MASOrange now monitors over 160,000 km of roads, a 10x increase in visibility compared to their previous approach.

Key benefits included:

Faster issue detection and resolution

More effective parameter optimization

Improved Quality of Service on the move

Continuous performance visibility

Internal feedback from the client highlighted one key shift:

“They went from measuring roads four times a year to having a reliable, automated lens on mobile performance every single week.”
